A babysitter is someone who look after children on a temporary basis, normally at the parents house (but can be a hotel) between the hours of 6pm and 2am.
Frequently Asked Questions…
- What is a babysitter?
- How do you vet each sitter?
Please read Our Parents Info page which gives you all the information on our vetting procedure.
- How much notice is needed to book a sitter?
Whatever notice you are able to give us. Some parents book well in advance while others give a couple of days notice. We also get requests with sometimes only a few hours notice and we will always try and organise a sitter for you.
- Can I meet the sitter beforehand?
Some of our new parents ask if this is possible before leaving their children, especially for the first time. In these circumstances we would recommend that you request the sitter to arrive at your property 30 minutes earlier. This allows you to meet them (which will need to be paid for), run through any routine and meet the children. Please remember each sitter has been carefully selected and interviewed before joining the agency.
- Why is the booking fee non-refundable?
Once a sitter has been allocated to you, the booking fee is then non-refundable. The reason being is the agency has done its requirement of organising a sitter for you. It actually creates more work if then this sitter is cancelled.
Sitters cancelled between the hours of Monday to Friday 9am til 5pm has no further sitter cancellation fee.
Cancellations received outside office hours does incur a cancellation fee of £10 which is paid direct to the sitter.
- What is the earliest and latest I can have a sitter?
Babysitting is classed as temporary care of children within their own homes (or can be a hotel)between the hours of 6pm til 2am.
We can occasionally organise sitters earlier than 6pm start with notice. We can not guarantee this as the majority of my sitters are either at work full time or at home with their own children in the day.
With regards to a finish time, we do appreciate an approx finish time for two main reasons. Firstly, for security purposes the sitter can tell their own family what time they are due home. Secondly some sitters with young children themselves are only happy to sit up until midnight. However other sitters are quite happy to stay out as late as you wish.
- What areas do you cover?
We are Bristol based and we can cover nearly ALL the BS postcode areas, apart from the following.
Areas we do not currently cover – BS22, BS23, BS24, BS25, BS26, BS27, BS28, BS29, BS39, BS40 & BS41
Areas we are currently working on arranging sitters for BS21, BS48 & BS49 so please contact us to ensure we can provide cover if you live in these areas.
- Do I need to drive the sitter home or pay extra for travelling?
No, each sitter has their own transport and can make their way to and from your property.
- Can I have the same sitter when I book?
We will always attempt to arrange the same sitter for you. The more notice you can give us for bookings, the easier it is to secure your requested sitter.
- How do I pay the agency and the sitter?
You can register with the agency by paying online through the PayPal secure site. You do not need a PayPal account and can use any major debit/credit card.
Once registered, members can benefit from a 5% discount on all renewals and booking fees by paying directly via online transfer into our account. This process means we do not pay any PayPal/bank charges and pass the savings onto you. You can of course still pay using PayPal. All invoices will be emailed on a monthly basis.
You pay the sitter direct cash at the end of the evening.
- Is there a cancellation fee if I cancel a sitter?
There is no cancellation fee if a sitter has to be cancelled within office hours .(Mon to Fri 9am to 5pm). Any cancellations made outside these hours will incur a cancellation fee of £10.00 which will be paid direct to the sitter. This is made either by posting a cheque or transferring the money directly online to the sitter.
Please note that the booking fee is non refundable once a sitter has been allocated to you and you have been advised that this has been done.
- When is the office open?
The office is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm (closed Bank Holidays) however if I am out of the office during these times there is an answer machine which is checked regularly.
When I am on holiday a lady named Maria Hawkins runs the agency for me, Maria is a valued sitter who has been with the agency since 2004. The agency will continue in exactly the same way without any inconvenience to sitters or parents.
- How do I make a booking through the agency?
Once registered with the Agency, you can call, email or text us, whichever is best for you.
When you make a booking it is helpful for you to advise us of the date required, start time and approx finish time. I will then allocate a sitter and advise you who it will be. One or two days before the booking the sitter will call you direct to introduce themselves and confirm the start time etc.
- Can we have extra children staying at our house?
We do ask that you let us know at your time of booking a sitter about any extra children that will be staying with you. We need the children’s names, dates of birth and any medical conditions.
We follow Ofsted guidelines for adult: child ratio to ensure the best care for your children. If extra children are present there is an additional charge of £2ph paid to the sitter. In some circumstances you may need 2 sitters at your house, we would let you know when you book if this is required.
- I am visiting the area and staying in a hotel, can you help us?
Yes we can. We offer a hotel sitting service for these situations. Please see parents information page for hotel rates.
